Description

Help HR professionals, supervisors, and managers recognize manipulative workplace behavior, understand the games that keep leaders off balance, and respond with fact-finding, clear boundaries, aligned communication, documentation, and accountability without trying to diagnose an employee’s personality.

Workplace manipulation rarely announces itself. It sounds like “I never said that,” “That is not what she told me,” convenient misunderstandings, selective incompetence, private side conversations, shifting stories, or an employee who somehow leaves every conflict looking like someone else caused it. Leaders do not need a diagnosis; they need to recognize and manage the behavior.

Call them “dark” personalities, “shadow” behaviors, workplace games, or simple sabotage: the tactics are familiar. Triangulation, blame-shifting, selective information, baiting, victim-offender reversals, and boundary testing create confusion and keep managers chasing side issues while accountability disappears.

This practical session shows HR and managers how to stop playing along. Participants will learn to spot patterns, verify facts, avoid triangulation, keep supervisors and HR aligned, respond to observable conduct rather than labels, document what matters, close loopholes, and establish consequences when the behavior continues.

After this webinar attendees will be able to answer-

  • What does workplace manipulation actually look like, and how is it different from normal conflict, disagreement, influence, or an employee simply advocating for themselves?
  • How do problem employees use triangulation, selective information, blame-shifting, rumor, strategic helplessness, charm, and plausible deniability to control the narrative?
  • Why do these workplace “games” work so well and how can they split supervisors from HR, create factions, confuse accountability, and keep everyone reacting instead of managing?
  • What warning signs suggest that an employee is managing the manager, testing boundaries, or quietly sabotaging coworkers, processes, or team performance?
  • How can leaders respond without getting pulled into arguments, counter-manipulation, amateur diagnosis, or endless debates about motives and intent?
  • How do you document patterns, close loopholes, align management and HR, set behavioral expectations, and move from repeated conversations to meaningful accountability?
